How we collect these sizes

Every size here comes from the exam's public notification or its official application portal. When a new notification changes a rule, we update the page. Recruitment bodies sometimes change limits between years, or even between two exams in the same year, so treat this table as a quick reference and confirm with the notification in front of you before submitting.

Seen a size that has changed? Tell us through the contact page and we will update it, usually within a day or two.

Understanding the rules in a notification

Dimensions or pixels

This is the width and height of the image, like 200 x 230 pixels. Some notifications write it the other way round, height first, so check which number is the width. A photo is always taller than it is wide.

File size in KB

Usually written as a range, like 20 KB to 50 KB. Files outside the range are rejected automatically by the portal.

Size in centimetres

Forms such as SSC, CTET and PAN describe the size in cm. To turn cm into pixels you need a DPI value. Our tools let you type cm directly and show the pixel size.

Format

Nearly every exam wants JPG or JPEG for photos and signatures, and PDF for certificates. A file saved as PNG with the name changed to .jpg will still be rejected, so convert it properly, as our tools do.

Exams with special rules

  • UPSC needs the candidate's name and the date of the photo printed on the photograph itself. Our UPSC page adds both for you.
  • IBPS, SBI and RBI ask for four uploads: photo, signature, left thumb impression and a hand-written declaration.
  • NEET UG needs both a passport size and a postcard size photo, and an image of the fingers and thumb impressions.
  • SSC now captures a live photo during the application in its new forms. The size rules still apply to other uploads.

Exam not in the list?

Use the photo resize tool for any size in pixels, cm, mm or inches, the signature tool for signatures, and the PDF tool for documents. Together they cover almost every form.
