Certificates, marksheets and ID proofs often have to be uploaded as PDF under a strict limit, like 100 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB. A PDF made by a scanner app or a phone camera can easily be 2 to 5 MB. This tool redraws every page at the right resolution and compresses it until the whole file fits your limit, while keeping text readable.

You can add more than one file. PDFs and photos are joined in the order you see, so you can combine, for example, both sides of an Aadhaar card or all pages of a marksheet into a single upload.

How to compress a PDF to a KB limit

4. Press Create PDF. The tool tries a few quality levels and keeps the best one that fits.

How small can a PDF get?

It depends on the number of pages. As a rough guide, one A4 page stays readable at 60 to 150 KB, so a 100 KB limit is comfortable for one or two pages. Five pages under 200 KB is possible but small text may get soft. If the result is not readable, remove pages the form doesn't need, or ask whether you can upload them separately.

Things to know

• The compressed PDF contains page images, so you can't select or copy text from it. That is fine for uploads, which only need to be readable.
• Password protected PDFs can't be opened. Remove the password first, for example by opening it and saving a copy without a password.
• Large files with many pages take a little time on older phones. Keep the page open until the download button appears.

Scanning documents well
