Getting a photo or signature under 20 KB
20 KB is a tight limit. It is mostly used for signatures, like the 10 to 20 KB rule in IBPS, SBI, RBI and SSC forms, and sometimes for small photos. A phone photo is usually 2 to 5 MB, which is over a hundred times bigger, so the image has to be cropped, made smaller and compressed carefully to stay readable.
This page is set to a maximum of 20 KB and keeps your original shape. If your form also gives a pixel size, switch off Keep original size and type it in. For a bank signature, the signature tool already has 140 x 60 pixels and 10 to 20 KB set for you.
How to make a 20 KB file
- Choose the photo and crop tightly. Every bit of empty space you remove leaves more of the 20 KB for the part that matters.
- If the form says "between 10 KB and 20 KB", set Min KB to 10.
- Press Create file. The tool picks the best quality that fits.
- Check the size shown under the preview, then download.
Signature under 20 KB that still looks sharp
Signatures compress very well when the background is pure white. Grey or yellowish paper, shadows and lines from a notebook all add KB and make the signature look dirty. For signatures, use the signature tool, which has a Make paper pure white option. It removes shadows and leaves only the ink.
Sign with a dark pen, not a pencil or a light blue ball pen, and keep the signature reasonably big on the paper. A small signature that is later enlarged looks blurry at any KB.
What if the file comes out below 10 KB?
A clean signature on white paper can easily compress to 4 or 5 KB, which some forms reject because of their 10 KB minimum. Set Min KB to 10 and the tool adds invisible padding inside the JPG so it reaches the minimum without changing the picture. The portal sees a valid JPG of the right size.
Does 20 KB mean 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?
Both are in use. Windows counts 1 KB as 1024 bytes, many websites count 1000. The tool keeps the file under 20,000 bytes, which is below 20 KB under either rule, so you won't see a "file too large" error because of rounding.
Frequently asked questions
Can a passport photo be under 20 KB?
Yes, at around 200 x 230 pixels a photo fits in 20 KB with acceptable quality. Larger photos need a higher limit to look clear.
My signature is on lined paper. Will it work?
It will work, but the lines may show. Sign again on plain white paper for the cleanest result.
Is it free?
Yes, free and without login. Your file stays in your browser.
