About the SSC upload rules

The Staff Selection Commission conducts CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD Constable, CPO, Stenographer and several other exams through its one time registration on ssc.gov.in. For years SSC has asked for a colour photo of 3.5 x 4.5 cm between 20 and 50 KB and a signature of 4 x 2 cm between 10 and 20 KB, both in JPG.

In recent cycles SSC has moved to capturing a live photograph through the webcam or phone camera while you fill the form, so you may not upload a photo at all. The signature upload is still required, and the photo rules below are useful for other SSC related uploads and for state forms that copy SSC's format. Always follow the instructions shown on the portal at the time you apply.

Photo 3.5 × 4.5 cm, signature 4 × 2 cm. Recent SSC forms capture a live photo inside the application; use this for other SSC uploads.

How to make the SSC photo

  1. Take the photo in daylight, facing a window, against a plain white or light wall.
  2. Keep your face straight with both ears visible. Remove caps and dark glasses.
  3. Open the tool above, tap Photo and choose your photo.
  4. Drag the photo so your face sits inside the oval guide, then press Create file.
  5. Check that the result shows 276 x 354 px and 20 to 50 KB, then download it.

How to make the SSC signature

  1. Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper. A thick, steady line reads best.
  2. Take a photo from straight above in good light, without your shadow on the paper.
  3. Tap Signature above, choose the photo and crop tightly around the signature.
  4. Keep Make paper pure white on. It removes shadows and grey paper.
  5. Download the file. It will be 316 x 158 px and 10 to 20 KB.

No paper nearby? Use Sign on screen in the tool and sign with your finger. Some exams want a signature on paper only, so check the notification if you are unsure.

Common reasons SSC uploads get rejected

  • The file is a few KB over the limit because it was compressed on a different site that counts KB differently. This tool stays safely inside both ways of counting.
  • The photo is stretched because it was resized without cropping. Always crop to the right shape first, as the tool does.
  • The background is busy or dark. Use a plain light wall, or the FormKit app's white background option.
  • The signature is faint or on lined paper. Sign darker on plain paper.
  • The file is PNG or HEIC instead of JPG. Files made here are always JPG.
